Trade Groups Back Insurer In Nev. Bad Faith Fight

Law360, New York (January 26, 2017, 3:50 PM EST) -- The American Insurance Association and other trade groups are voicing support for United Automobile Insurance Co. in its appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court to avoid liability in a coverage dispute over a multimillion default judgment stemming from a car accident, saying there was no bad faith.

A panel of the Ninth Circuit last year sought the Nevada high court's input on legal issues that arose in a dispute over whether United Auto must cover a $3.5 million default judgment entered against its policyholder, Gary Lewis, after the insurer failed to defend Lewis in the underlying car crash litigation.
