Public Knowledge Chief Wary Of Empty Rhetoric At New FCC

Law360, Washington (February 2, 2017, 6:04 PM EST) -- New Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai has taken an encouraging first step by focusing on closing the digital divide, nonprofit Public Knowledge’s President and CEO Gene Kimmelman told Law360 in a recent interview, but he worries a critical gap may remain between Pai's stated goals and chosen tactics.

Public Knowledge, a nonprofit public interest group that supports the Obama FCC's net neutrality rules, said the chairman’s rhetoric on supporting an open internet but refusal to embrace common carrier reclassification of broadband seems likely to ring hollow.
