Pilgrim's Pride Plans To Idle 3 US Chicken Plants

Law360, New York (February 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Bankrupt poultry producer Pilgrim's Pride Corp. said Friday it would idle three of its 32 U.S. chicken processing plants by mid-May as part of its efforts to reorganize under Chapter 11.

The Pittsburg, Texas-based company said idling the three underperforming plants would improve its product mix by cutting back production of commodity chicken and reduce costs in the midst of an industrywide oversupply of chicken and weak consumer demand.
