Jawbone Gets 2 Patents Nixed In Fitbit Infringement Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (March 3, 2017, 7:08 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Thursday issued a partial dismissal of Fitbit Inc.’s patent infringement suit against Jawbone Inc. over rival wearable fitness trackers, saying that two contested patents are invalid for being directed to an abstract idea and lacking an inventive concept, under Alice.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman trimmed Fitbit’s action against Jawbone and BodyMedia Inc., leaving one disputed patent remaining after the court held it survived the U.S. Supreme Court’s two-part Alice test for patentability.
