Ariel Investments Competitor Wants Stay On Name Change

Law360, Chicago (March 20, 2017, 7:05 PM EDT) -- A Florida wealth manager whose firm was ordered to change its name to avoid Chicago-based Ariel Investments LLC’s trademark on “Ariel” asked the Seventh Circuit to delay the modification, arguing Monday that rebranding mid-tax season will hurt the manager's business.

In an emergency motion filed the same day an Illinois federal judge refused to stay an order requiring Ariel Capital Advisors LLC to drop its use of the name "Ariel," Ariel Capital Advisors founder Christopher Bray asked the Seventh Circuit to weigh in.
