Class Wins Cert. On RICO Claims Against Hartford

Law360, New York (March 10, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has partially granted certification to a class alleging that the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by unfairly charging fees for structured settlement annuities.

U.S. District Judge Janet Hall of the District of Connecticut issued an opinion on Tuesday certifying the class on the fraud and RICO claims and denying certification for the lawsuit’s unjust enrichment and breach of contract claims.
