Obama Picks Public Health Expert To Head FDA

Law360, New York (March 11, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Obama administration has reportedly tagged former New York City health commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg as its first choice for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s top job, ending a months-long search.

Hamburg, who has served in public health since the 1980s, is the leading candidate for FDA commissioner, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

“The White House wants to position the FDA commissioner as someone who will lead the agency back to its core mission of public health,” the newspaper reported.
