Worker Safety Landscape To Shift Under Obama

Law360, New York (March 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- President Obama and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis have both embraced worker safety as a priority, and their stance will translate into some tangible changes, including stiffer penalties for worker safety violations and more standard setting from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, experts say.

Peg Seminario, the AFL-CIO's director of safety and health, said she expects a “different direction” from President Obama and Secretary Solis. The government's handling of worker safety issues is already starting to change, she said.
