Court Suspends Lawyers After $200M Fen-Phen Case

Law360, New York (August 25, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Three attorneys have been suspended from the bar in Kentucky on the basis that they pilfered money from a $200 million settlement their clients were awarded in a case over Wyeth’s diet drug combination known as fen-phen.

The 440 clients the attorneys represented in a class action received a total of around $45 million from the 2001 settlement. Of the remainder, lawyers and consultants received around $106 million, with each lawyer receiving around $20 million, and $20 million going to create a nonprofit fund, according to...
