Senate Panel Advances Judge Amul Thapar For 6th Circ.

Law360, Washington (May 18, 2017, 3:59 PM EDT) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the nomination of U.S. District Judge Amul R. Thapar to fill a vacancy on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Thursday, President Donald Trump’s second judicial nominee.

Thapar’s nomination went through the panel on an 11-8 vote — Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, did not vote — over Democrats' concerns about his rulings on money as political speech and constitutional interpretations.
