Law360, New York (May 23, 2017, 9:04 PM EDT) -- An international computer science research team has discovered the software code behind the defeat devices used in Volkswagen AG and Fiat Chrysler diesel cars to evade emissions standards, according to a study released Monday.
Over a year-long inquiry, the researchers looked at the codes that enabled an on-board computer to determine if the car was being tested for emissions and then turn on the car's emissions-curbing systems.
