ICE Ends Detention Alternative Program, Citing Few Removals

By Allissa Wickham (June 9, 2017, 10:29 PM EDT) -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is ending a detention alternative program for asylum seekers that is less than two years old, pointing to the expense of the program and the small number of deportations associated with it.

ICE has decided to terminate the Family Case Management Program, according to ICE spokeswoman Sarah Rodriguez, who noted that deportations of people on other so-called Alternatives to Detention programs happen at a "much higher rate" than with the FCMP.
