Consumer Activists Press For Stronger Cipro Warning

Law360, New York (August 29, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Consumer group Public Citizen and the Illinois Attorney General are looking to strengthen tendon rupture warnings for Cipro and other fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

The Food and Drug Administration could accomplish this by requiring “black box” warnings on the drugs’ labels and by requiring pharmacists to give patients medication guides that also carry the warnings, Public Citizen said Tuesday in a petition to the FDA.
