Pecan Co. Says Nut Supplier Is Responsible In $1.5M Hack

Law360, New York (June 16, 2017, 1:38 PM EDT) -- A pecan wholesaler told a Texas federal judge on Thursday that it does not owe $1.5 million to a Mexican nut distributor after allegedly transferring payments meant for the distributor to a third-party hacker who changed the wiring instructions via email, saying it had no idea it had paid a hacker.

Texas-based wholesaler San Saba Pecan Exports Corp. argued that distributor J.F. Nut Co. had not shown that San Saba knew it was making payments to the wrong party or that it had acted recklessly in doing so, given that the wire transfer requests came from J.F. Nut’s existing email address....
