Fed. Circ. Affirms PTAB's Nix Of Gambling Machine Patent

Law360, New York (June 19, 2017, 4:51 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Monday affirmed the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s decision that a Cole Kepro International LLC patent related to casino gambling machine cabinets was invalid, finding that it would have been obvious at the time of the invention.

The appeals court said that the board’s May 2016 decision in an inter partes review requested by rival VSR Industries Inc. was supported by substantial evidence. Cole Kepro argued, among other things, that license agreements it had with other manufacturers outweighed evidence of obviousness....
