The Sharpest Dissents From This Supreme Court Term

By Jimmy Hoover (June 27, 2017, 6:31 PM EDT) -- While there were fewer dissents coming from the U.S. Supreme Court during its October 2016 term than in years past, justices still managed to come up with creative disses and blistering attacks when they were on the losing side.

The justices wrote 32 dissents over their most recent term, far fewer than the nearly 50 penned last term and the 67 released in the October 2014 term.

Observers speculate the decline is due to the relatively quiet docket the justices maintained for most of the term as they awaited the confirmation of the court's ninth member, Justice Neil Gorsuch.
