Senate Panel Backs Varney For DOJ Antitrust Chief

Law360 (March 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has approved Christine A. Varney, head of the Internet practice group at Hogan & Hartson LLP, as the nation's top antitrust enforcer at the U.S. Department of Justice.

The committee decided Thursday to send to the Senate for a full vote Varney's nomination for assistant attorney general of the DOJ's Antitrust Division.

Varney has experience in both public and private practice, having rejoined Hogan & Hartson in 1997 after a five-year break from the firm to work for the federal government....
