Widevine Patent Squeaks By In Re-Examination Bid

Law360 (March 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In the latest development in a legal battle between technology companies Widevine Technologies Inc. and Verimatrix Inc., the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a mixed decision in a patent re-examination, approving 23 of Widevine's patent claims while rejecting the remaining 71.

In its nonfinal decision, the USPTO last Monday confirmed part of Widevine's patent but rejected the majority of the patent's claims. The decision responds to a December 2007 request by Verimatrix for re-examination.
