Looking At The EU Market Abuse Regulation 1 Year Later

Law360, New York (July 13, 2017, 10:44 AM EDT) -- The EU Market Abuse Regulation (“MAR”) applied on July 3, 2016. We discuss in this article its consequences on asset managers during its first year of application.

MAR contains the rules on insider dealing, unlawful disclosure of inside information and market manipulation that apply throughout the EU. MAR updated the pre-existing EU market abuse regime, adding a great deal more detail to the existing rules and widening its scope to a range of financial instruments traded on venues other than the main EEA exchanges.
