Sunoco To Pay $1.5M Over NJ Refinery Waste Levels

Law360, New York (April 1, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Sunoco Inc. will pay the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection $1.5 million to settle charges that benzene waste levels at the company's Westville, N.J., oil refinery violated the Clean Air Act.

The oil giant will pay $750,000 to the EPA and $750,000 to the NJDEP, according to a Tuesday order in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
