Marathon Petroleum To Pay $86M To Settle Refinery Fire Suits

Law360, New York (August 3, 2017, 7:34 PM EDT) -- Marathon Petroleum Company LP will pay $86 million to resolve four state court lawsuits stemming from a January 2016 fire at its Galveston Bay refinery in Texas, the company announced Thursday.

The four lawsuits were consolidated for pre-trial purposes in multidistrict litigation pending in state district court in Galveston County, Texas, and were brought by people who say they were injured in the fire, Marathon said in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
