Coinbase Gets Support From 3 Groups In IRS Summons Spat

Law360, New York (August 4, 2017, 10:51 PM EDT) -- The Competitive Enterprise Institute and two digital currency advocacy groups asked a California federal court Thursday to let them support Coinbase Inc.'s challenge to an IRS summons that seeks customer names and other information from the virtual currency exchange company, calling the request overbroad.

The Digital Currency and Ledger Defense Coalition, Coin Center and CEI offered separate motions asking the court to allow them to file amicus briefs to back up Coinbase, which the Internal Revenue Service wants to turn over information about users suspected of withholding virtual transactions from their taxes.
