Bill Would Make Competition For Pharma Sales Reps

Law360, New York (April 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A new bill put forward by a group of senators and congressmen would give pharmaceutical sales representatives some competition in doctors' offices, by funding independent agents who could educate physicians on drug choices.

Eight Democrats introduced on Wednesday the Independent Drug Education and Outreach Act to fund grants aimed at creating a team of independent pharmaceutical experts that would go into doctors' offices to dispense advice about medications – a move that would counter the one-sided sales pitches of pharmaceutical reps, the bill's sponsors said....
