Biz Groups Mobilize To Maintain NAFTA Investment Arbitration

Law360, New York (August 9, 2017, 4:00 PM EDT) -- More than 100 of the nation’s most influential business groups on Tuesday launched an effort to preserve the North American Free Trade Agreement’s investment arbitration, the future of which has been in doubt ever since the White House released its list of NAFTA negotiating objectives.

In a letter to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer spearheaded by the National Association of Manufacturers, the business groups encouraged the administration to maintain and upgrade NAFTA’s investor-state dispute settlement, or ISDS, mechanism, which they touted as an integral component of the trilateral pact.
