Spanish Shipper Fined $2.5M For Illegal Dumping

Law360, New York (April 7, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Spanish company has pled guilty in U.S. federal court to dumping oil-contaminated bilge water on the high seas, and agreed to pay a $2.5 million fine.

Consultores De Navegacion SA, which operated the chemical tanker M/T Nautilus, pled guilty to six charges, including conspiracy, falsification of records, false statements, obstruction and two violations of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts on Monday.
