$2.5B Ticketmaster-Live Nation Merger 'Suspect': AAI

Law360 (April 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The $2.5 billion proposed merger between Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. and concert promoter Live Nation Inc. raises substantial antitrust concerns and would create an “overwhelmingly dominant entity” in the primary ticket sales market, where the two companies are horizontal competitors, according to the American Antitrust Institute.

The antitrust think tank said Monday that the proposed deal, which the institute called “suspect on its surface,” would allow Live Nation to become a vertically integrated enterprise with dominance or substantial power on six market levels.
