Spitzer Scoffs At Greenberg's Claims In AIG Civil Case

Law360 (September 6, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer characterized as “absurd” on Wednesday claims that he has dropped charges against former American International Group Inc. executives Maurice "Hank" Greenberg and Howard Smith.

Spitzer’s spokesperson, Darren Dopp, refuted claims by the executives’ lawyers that the key parts of the civil suit against the duo had essentially been withdrawn.

The charges that were dropped related to AIG as a company since they were made moot as a result of Spitzer’s settlement with the insurer, Dopp explained.
