Pa. To Set New Wastewater Discharge Limits

Law360, New York (April 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Reacting to increased levels of natural gas exploration in the state, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is working to set new standards for industrial wastewater discharges that will provide more protections for aquatic life and the state's drinking water supplies.

Acting Secretary John Hanger announced the effort at a public meeting of the Marcellus Shale Wastewater Technology Partnership Wednesday, saying the new limits would target wastewater high in total dissolved solids, or TDS, a measure of dissolved materials in water.
