Allstate Exclusion Policy To Get Judicial Review

Law360 (April 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An insurance customer advocate in Maryland has the right to seek review of Allstate Insurance Co.'s decision to stop issuing new homeowners policies in what the insurer calls "catastrophe-prone" counties, the state's highest court has ruled, reversing a lower court ruling.

The ruling, issued Wednesday by the Court of Appeals of Maryland, concludes that the People's Insurance Counsel Division was a party to the matter when it requested a hearing on Allstate’s "nonwrite," and that the division had standing to seek judicial review.
