Hormel Inks $850M Deal For PE-Backed Deli Brand Columbus

Law360, New York (October 31, 2017, 11:37 AM EDT) -- Hormel Foods Corp. will pay $850 million for private equity-backed Columbus Manufacturing Inc., giving Hormel Foods access to a growing millennial-focused branded meat and salami company that will expand its in-store offerings, the company said Tuesday.

Minnesota-based Hormel Foods, which is behind deli brands like Hormel, Jennie-O and Applegate, billed the deal as an opportunity to pick up a deli brand that is tapping into the fast-growing trend toward authentic food experiences, the company said.
