Luxury Candy Seller Soured By Rival's Copying, Suit Says

By Shayna Posses (November 1, 2017, 9:15 PM EDT) -- Sugarfina Inc. went after a New Jersey candy store in California federal court Tuesday, saying the company is an imitator that is trying to mooch off the high-end candy retailer's success by ripping off its innovative packaging, treat offerings and product names.

The complaint alleges that Sweitzer LLC has ridden on Sugarfina's coattails, rather than developing its own products and packaging, and sells blatant ripoffs of the California-based luxury sweets boutique's Candy Bento Boxes that copy everything from its patented package — which features rows of "museum-quality" Lucite cubes holding the sweets — to its protectable product names.
