Shipyard Workers Awarded $14M In Asbestos Suits

Law360, New York (April 22, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A Philadelphia jury has awarded $14 million in damages to three former U.S. Navy veterans who developed fatal cases of mesothelioma after allegedly being exposed to asbestos at a naval shipyard.

The jury issued the liability verdict Friday for the three separate cases, which were consolidated and tried in a reverse bifurcation proceeding, granting $6 million to plaintiff Robert Hirshberg and $4 million each to plaintiffs Robert Mattison and Walter Sorey.
