Insurer Fights Wal-Mart Indemnity Claims

Law360 (April 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- United Fire & Casualty Co. has filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. claiming it is not liable for Wal-Mart’s defense costs in a lawsuit launched by an ironworker seriously injured after falling off the roof of a Wal-Mart building.

The complaint, lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, claims Wal-Mart alone is responsible for the accident and is not covered by a general insurance policy United issued to a subcontractor that employed Jay C. Jeffers, the worker injured on the job....
