Bill Would Add More Worker Protections To WARN Act

Law360, New York (April 24, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., has introduced a bill that would double penalties for violations of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act and require notifications for mass layoffs that occur at more than one work site.

Under the federal WARN Act, employers must provide 60 days' notice in advance of a mass layoff that impacts at least 500 workers or one-third of a work force that is greater than 49 employees at one employment site.
