Chicago To Sue US Steel Over Lake Michigan Chemical Spills

Law360, Springfield (November 20, 2017, 9:59 PM EST) -- The city of Chicago on Monday issued a notice of intent to sue Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel, which Chicago alleges polluted Lake Michigan from 27 miles across the state line at the company’s Portage, Indiana, steel plant.

Chicago’s forthcoming suit — to be filed after 60 days of Monday’s notice of intent — will allege the company violated the federal Clean Water Act in two separate incidents this year.
