Former Hostage Of Pirates Sues His Employers

Law360 (April 28, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A crewman on the U.S. ship taken over by Somali pirates earlier this month has alleged in a lawsuit that the ship's owners illegally exposed him to grave and imminent danger.

Royal Palm Beach, Fla., resident Richard E. Hicks said in a complaint that Waterman Steamship Corp. and Maersk Line Ltd. knowingly sent him into pirate-infested waters without adequate protection, even though safer routes were available.
