Payday Lenders Exit Usury Suit Under Tribal Immunity
A Maryland federal judge dismissed a putative class's claims that two lenders shirked liability for their illegal payday lending practices by affiliating themselves with sovereign tribes, ruling Friday the lenders proved they are owned by tribes and thus immune to common-law claims.
