The owner of a mine who continued to enter a Steamboat Springs gravel site after being barred from entering because he failed to complete required safety training has agreed to a permanent injunction keeping him away without Mine Safety and Health Administration clearance.

A Colorado federal judge Thursday ordered the owner of a Steamboat Springs gravel mine to "stay away" from the site until he attends mandatory safety training, after reports that the 84-year-old proprietor has refused the training, injured a worker and threatened to shoot his safety manager and federal inspectors.

A Steamboat Springs mine operator failed to attend safety training and subsequently injured a miner while operating equipment, thereby violating an order issued under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act, according to a Department of Labor lawsuit seeking an injunction to temporarily bar the operator from the site.
