UC System Asks ITC To Probe Home Depot, Others Over LEDs

Law360 (August 31, 2020, 10:28 PM EDT) -- The University of California system fired another shot in its ongoing attempt to get royalties for its filament LED lighting patents, asking the U.S. International Trade Commission on Monday to investigate lightbulb imports from General Electric, Home Depot, Ikea and others.

Following a campaign of previous complaints with both the ITC and in federal court, the UC regents are alleging that the lightbulbs imported and sold by General Electric, Savant Systems, Feit Electric, Home Depot, Ikea and Satco Products copied patents invented by a Nobel-credentialed research team at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
