Shell Wins Block Of Greenpeace Efforts To Stop Drill Rig

Law360, New York (March 1, 2012, 8:46 PM EST) -- Shell Oil Co. won a temporary restraining order Thursday blocking Greenpeace Inc. activists from barricading or occupying its Arctic-bound drilling ship, in a suit alleging the protesters — including actress Lucy Lawless — threatened its contracts and endangered lives.

U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Gleason overruled Greenpeace's objections that Greenpeace International, which is based in the Netherlands, is legally distinct from Greenpeace USA, a California corporation, and that the latter should not be the subject of a two-week TRO based on actions undertaken by Greenpeace International...
