   Order on Motion to Amend Scheduling Order

   ORDER granting in part and denying in part 53 Motion to Amend Scheduling Order. After hearing extensively from the parties at today's hearing, I conclude that the Plaintiffs have shown good cause to reopen Defendant Erica Lilly's deposition for the limited purpose of asking her questions about the discovery responses the Defendants produced after the close of discovery. Lilly's reopened deposition shall (1) last a maximum of two hours, (2) be conducted remotely, and (3) occur within thirty-one days of this order. The Plaintiffs are warned not expect further discovery after the reopened deposition and to treat it for what it is: an opportunity to tie up a few loose threads. See, e.g., MAZ Partners LP v. Shear, 208 F. Supp. 3d 384, 387 (D. Mass. 2016) ("[D]iscovery, like all matters of procedure, has ultimate and necessary boundaries, and the discovery rules are not an excursion ticket to an unlimited, never-ending exploration of every conceivable matter that captures an attorney's interest." (cleaned up)). To the extent the Plaintiffs request a broader reopening of discovery, their request is DENIED for several reasons. First, many of the issues on which they seek further discovery were known to them, at least generally, before the close of discovery but they did not move for an extension until after the discovery deadline lapsed. Second, their requests for further depositions, including of Defendant Bristol Hospice's CEO, are not proportional to the needs of the case given the voluminous information that has already been exchanged. And finally, the information they seek about a data breach at Attorney Rockers's law firm is irrelevant to the issues in this case.
