MINUTE entry before the Honorable Jorge L. Alonso: Plaintiff's motion to enforce its PACER order 54 is denied. Most litigants, even those proceeding in forma pauperis, do not require a PACER exemption because they are entitled to one free electronic copy of every document, see U.S. Courts, Electronic Public Access Fee Schedule, https://www.uscourts.gov/court-programs/fees/elec-tronic-public-access-fee-schedule. Nevertheless, as an accommodation, the Court entered a PACER exemption order 44 to provide Plaintiff with access to the docket of this case. In the present motion, Plaintiff reports that her PACER account has been disabled due to "fees that posted prior to the exemption." (Mot. at paragraph 2, Dkt. No. 44.) It was not the Court's intention to interfere in PACER's operations or in any billing dispute between Plaintiff and PACER that is unrelated to this case, and it will not do so now. MINUTE entry before the Honorable Young B. Kim: Status and motion hearing held. Plaintiff's motion to compel 52 is denied without prejudice because the alleged problematic PDF documents she identifies in her motion are documents Defendants maintain as paper documents, and they had to be scanned and converted to PDF for production. That said, Plaintiff is free to identify for Defendants the specific documents by Bates stamp numbers and have Defendants verify that those documents are not maintained electronically. Parties confirmed during the hearing that they exchanged written discovery requests and responses thereto. Both sides report that the other side's discovery production is inadequate. As discussed in open court, Plaintiff is ordered to serve by August 17, 2026, her amended responses to Defendants' requests for production of documents by either answering "none" or identifying the specific documents she already produced as responsive documents so that Defendants may match the documents produced with each document request. Parties are to meet and confer about their written discovery issues by phone or by video during the month of September and identify those issues this court must resolve. A status hearing is scheduled for October 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for an update on the parties' meet-and-confers.
