Centene Sells Illinois Biz To CVS Ahead Of $17B WellCare Buy

Law360 (December 2, 2019, 11:20 AM EST) -- Centene detailed plans Monday to sell its Illinois health plan subsidiary to CVS Health, as the government-focused health insurer continues a push to gain regulatory approval of its $17.3 billion acquisition of WellCare. 

The deal comes after Centene Corp. and WellCare Health Plans Inc. in September announced plans to sell WellCare’s package of Medicaid plans in Missouri and Nebraska to Anthem Inc. as the health insurers work to gain approval for their anticipated merger from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.
