Cordray Vows To Maintain CFPB Independence Under Trump

By Evan Weinberger (January 24, 2017, 4:24 PM EST) -- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray on Tuesday intimated that he will fight for agency independence and against any effort by the Trump administration to remove him from his post before it expires next year.

Cordray would not comment on rumors that President Donald Trump will soon take action to fire him before his term expires in July 2018. Although he would not speak directly about those rumors, Cordray said that maintaining the independence of financial and other regulators is vital in order to make sure that independent regulators are not captured by partisan politics or big money interests....
