FCC Must Probe Carriers' Sharing Of User Data, Panel Hears

Law360 (July 11, 2018, 6:50 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission must further probe the sharing of sensitive customer information collected by telecom providers and passed on to third parties without clear procedures for obtaining the users' consent, a House subcommittee on technology heard Wednesday.

According to Laura Moy, deputy director of the Center on Privacy & Technology at Georgetown Law, the commission can probe carriers’ records to find out what information they have shared with “data brokers” and other companies that collect and sell details about customers’ locations and behavior over communications...
