Foundry Fined $283K After Worker Loses Legs In Machine

Law360 (March 8, 2018, 2:48 PM EST) -- California’s health and safety watchdog agency hit Alhambra Foundry Co. Ltd. with a $283,390 fine for willful workplace safety violations after an employee became caught in a machine’s confined space and lost both of his legs, according to a statement Wednesday from the agency.

California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health, better known as Cal/OSHA, fined the Los Angeles County-based company following an investigation into the incident. The agency found that the foundry had eight safety violations and didn’t have the required permit for its workers...
