Deals Rumor Mill: Engie, Edison, Canaan

By Benjamin Horney (January 9, 2019, 5:35 PM EST) -- French electric utility Engie SA is looking to reopen discussions concerning a possible acquisition of Transportadora Associada de Gás SA, or TAG, according to a Wednesday report from Reuters. Last February, Engie was reportedly among a group of bidders interested in the unit, which is owned by Petroleo Brasileiro, or Petrobras. The new report cited Brazil-based publication Valor Econômico, which quoted Eduardo Sattamini, CEO of Engie's Brazilian business, as saying that "we are very likely to resume talks with Petrobras." TAG operates roughly 2,800 miles of pipelines in the north and northeast of Brazil, and according to Wednesday's report, Engie previously made an offer worth more than $7 billion, but Brazil's Supreme Court in July issued an injunction blocking asset sales by Petrobras. It's not clear exactly when the company will be allowed to start selling assets again....
