DOI Can't Stop Utah Oil Lease Challenge, Enviros Say

Law360 (September 20, 2019, 6:23 PM EDT) -- Environmental groups said the U.S. Department of the Interior can't rid itself of a consolidated challenge to dozens of oil and gas leases even after it decided to reexamine their environmental impacts, arguing the suit targets more than what the DOI is addressing.

The DOI may have suspended the Utah leases in question, but the consolidated cases are still important because it could force the government to look more closely at endangered species issues, aspects of public participation and whether there are alternatives to the sales, the environmental groups said Thursday.
