Obama Taps Yucca Mountain Critic To Replace NRC Chairman

Law360, New York (May 24, 2012, 8:00 PM EDT) -- President Barack Obama on Thursday tapped a critic of Nevada's Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site to take over as chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, a move that could set up a tricky confirmation process in Congress.

Obama nominated Allison Macfarlane, a George Mason University professor and editor of a book raising technical concerns about the Yucca Mountain repository, to replace outgoing NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko, who resigned Monday amid intense criticism of his leadership style.
