State Gas Leases Would Face Public Scrutiny Under Pa. Bill
Law360, Philadelphia (June 9, 2014, 1:43 PM EDT) -- As a state judge wrestles with an environmental group's bid to stop Gov. Tom Corbett from leasing additional public land for natural gas extraction, a Pennsylvania legislator introduced a bill on Friday that would open such deals up for greater public scrutiny in the future.
Rep. Rick Mirabito, D-Lycoming, said that his legislation would require the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to provide notice and require at least one public hearing before any state forestland could be leased for hydraulic fracturing.
